Ryan Matthews, played by Ryan Eggold, is a character introduced in the fourth series of the Beverly Hills, 90210 continuity.

Ryan is a witty, light-hearted teacher at West Beverly Hills High School. He also serves as coach of the lacrosse team. Early on in the series, Ryan developed a romantic interest in guidance counselor Kelly Taylor. It was briefly implied that he also felt an attraction toward Kelly's friend Brenda Walsh.

Ryan's romantic relationship with Kelly ended when she eventually revealed that she wasn't yet over her ex, Dylan. He then expressed a renewed interest in Brenda, who he spent time at a party with shortly before she departed town. It was later revealed that the two had slept together.

Ryan then met a police officer named Kimberly MacIntyre while she was brought in to pose as a student. After a degree of comical friction, the two eventually began dating. After failing to resume a romantic relationship with Dylan, Kelly returned and expressed a new interest in Ryan. However, she found him unavailable due to his relationship with Kimberly, and later found that he'd become distant entirely. Following a school matter that left him feeling his credibility was in question, Ryan departed West Beverly for a short period. He then returned and continued his work at the school.

After helping Kelly's younger sister Erin Silver put together a film project, Matthews presented it before a small audience at a local theater. However, he was then surprised to find that, among other things, Silver had filmed herself and her boyfriend Dixon having sex. He then called for the film to be turned off as Dixon stormed out, followed by a shaken Erin. Later, Ryan found that Silver had broken into his apartment. Amidst several paranoid words, she eventually stated that she believed he was trying to turn Dixon against her. After he'd managed to calm her down, she snuck out after he left the room. Ryan then called Kelly, and the two began a search. After learning from the Wilson family that Silver was at the local train station, Ryan and Kelly drove Erin to the hospital. It was discovered that evening that Silver had bipolar disorder. At the hospital, Ryan and Kelly mended their friendship. After running into Kelly while shopping one night, the two ended up spending a passionate evening together.

Later, Ryan began a relationship with Jen Clark, the older sister of a West Beverly student named Naomi.
