[edit] Introduction (S1)
Naomi, a student of West Beverly High, is a privileged, socially ambitious rich girl who is sensitive at heart. Her first on-screen birthday coincides with the birth of the series, and several of her relationships throughout this episode and the second provide an introduction to the many aspects of her personality.
As she slowly befriends Annie Wilson, the new girl at school, Naomi displays a tendency for being withdrawn and opportunistic at times. Conversely, she also reveals a deep capacity for love and commitment, which is demonstrated through her longtime romantic involvement with Ethan Ward (who'd had a brief romantic history with Annie as well). Having grown up privileged, Naomi basks in the high life and enjoys social prominence—sometimes to a fault. This is initially displayed through her estrangement with former friend Erin Silver, a bond that was changed by a power-driven mistake on Naomi's part.
[edit] Hidden layers
Portrayed as an underachiever in school, Naomi attempted to plagiarize one of Annie's old papers early on in the series. Upon being caught, she found herself growing weary of—and even offended by—the excuses that her parents often made on her behalf. Wanting to prove her potential, she opted to do the assignment herself.
Naomi is also shown to be a good help with Ethan's autistic brother, as he responds well to her friendliness. Additionally, she is an exceptional speaker of Spanish.
[edit] Separations
Early on in the series, Erin Silver claimed that she and Naomi had once been best friends. However, Silver also stated that things had changed when Naomi betrayed her trust by revealing a secret. According to Erin, Naomi places great value on being admired for her knowledge and holding social power around school.
At her 16th birthday party, Naomi discovered that her boyfriend Ethan had cheated on her. After a series of talks in the following days—and an incident in which she had a fling of her own—the relationship ended following a calm discussion in which Ethan decided that they were better off apart.
[edit] House of Clark
Naomi is the daughter of Tracy and Charles Clark and has a sister named Jen, who is said to be off at college when the series begins. In the third episode, Naomi became highly distraught after discovering that her father was having an affair. After being comforted by Ethan, she later went home to quietly lay next to Tracy as she slept. The next morning, Naomi regretfully reported the affair to her mother, and was stunned to learn that she already knew of it. Tracy identified the other woman as Gail, and explained that Gail and Charles had been seeing each other on an occasional basis for two years. Not wanting to separate the family, or lose her life of luxury, Tracy had chosen to tolerate Charles's unfaithful habits.
[edit] Fresh starts
When word of her family's troubles reached Silver, Naomi feared that Erin would retaliate against her by posting the information on her blog. Amidst her ongoing trauma, she began turning to Ethan for comfort, stating that it simply felt nice to talk to him. After tracking down and confronting Gail, Naomi soon learned that Charles intended to move her into the family's beach house, and revealed this to her mother. Upon realizing that Charles's interest in Gail was greater than she'd thought, Tracy began to grow less content with the matter. Finally wanting a change, she eventually decided that the time had come to divorce Charles. After informing her daughter of this, Tracy took Naomi in her arms and stated that she loved her.
Silver later told Naomi that she wouldn't blog about her family's problems, which appeared to lessen the tension between the girls. After receiving continued support from Ethan, and watching an old video of them together, Naomi informed him that she wanted to at least rebuild their friendship. Ethan responded positively, and the two soon shared a kiss.
[edit] When it rains...
In time, Naomi's anxiety regarding her parents eventually led her to ask Ethan if he still loved her. Ethan hesitated while responding, and the two were soon interrupted by her mother. Later, an attempt on Naomi's part to save her parents' relationship failed. This led her to recall the earlier moment between she and Ethan, which prompted the couple to once again go their separate ways following a brief discussion about their feelings. In the days to follow, however, Naomi retained a playful interest in Ethan, particularly after seeing him spending time with Annie.
[edit] On friendship
Naomi made a significant effort to sway her friend Adrianna from drug use, repeatedly expressing how much she cared for her. When police officers searched West Beverly for drugs, Adrianna quickly panicked while fearing the many consequences. Naomi chose to intervene by taking drugs from Adrianna's possession. This led to Naomi being briefly arrested and facing a number of charges. Adrianna eventually agreed to come forth, but later turned back to her addiction and overdosed before she could do so. Following Naomi's release, her parents took it upon themselves to try lessening the charges their daughter faced. Eventually, the charges were essentially dropped, and Naomi was given after-school detention for the semester.
Though Naomi was relieved to learn of Adrianna's recovery, she became increasingly distant from her afterwards. When Adrianna forced a confrontation, Naomi admitted that she still cared about her, but stated that the relationship had become too stressful to continue. As Naomi and Annie grew closer, Naomi revealed that she was beginning to value the friendship. However, she also admitted that Annie's growing closeness to Ethan was likely to make things awkward. As the two discussed the finer points of friendship, Annie suggested that Naomi give Adrianna another chance. Though Naomi was reluctant, she eventually followed the advice and reconciled with her old friend.
[edit] One thing after another
Naomi soon learned that her mother had given birth to a son during her teenage years, and that the father was West Beverly Principal Harry Wilson—Annie's dad. She and Annie would later discuss this. Though both found the situation odd, it initially had little impact on their friendship. However, after seeing Annie kissing Ethan later, Naomi became highly resentful. To retaliate, she lured Annie's old boyfriend Jason to town, and made out with him at Annie's birthday party. The girls then had a private confrontation. Naomi, citing her growing frustration with the many betrayals and surprises in her life, was unrepentant for her actions. Angered, Annie revealed that she'd intended to tell Naomi about Ethan, but had been waiting for the right time. Both then declared that their friendship was over. In the midst of the argument, however, they were interrupted by the arrival of Sean Cavanaugh—a young man claiming to be the son of Harry and Tracy.
[edit] Now you see him...
Naomi, alongside Annie, was briefly counseled by Kelly Taylor, West Beverly's guidance counselor. Following Sean's brief stay and sudden departure, the Wilsons, Naomi, and a reluctant Tracy eventually concluded that he was not who he'd claimed to be, but someone who'd intended to scam them. It was also revealed that the Clarks had indeed given him some of their money. Afterwards, Naomi maintained a degree of antipathy toward Annie, who proposed an accord.
[edit] On and on
In the coming days, Naomi discovered that her mother had taken an indefinite leave of town, while her father had decided to sell the house. She then moved into the family's beach home, and soon learned that Charles had become involved with yet another woman. After discovering that Adrianna was pregnant, she offered full support to her friend. Later, Naomi informed her father that she was moving out of the beach house and staying at a hotel for the time being.
While at the hotel, Naomi entered a mutually flirtatious relationship with a bartender named Liam. She was also surprised by a visit from Silver, who sought her help with hotel and dinner reservations. While using her connections to assist her old friend, Naomi acknowledged that she enjoyed bonding with Erin again, and Silver expressed the same.
Upon seeing Liam in one of her classes, Naomi learned that he was actually a student at West Beverly who'd been attempting to dodge school. She also learned that she'd accidentally tipped his parents off to this by sending him a gift.
[edit] Starting over
Naomi had a dream in which she made out with Liam after apologizing. At school, she offered to tutor him when a teacher requested a volunteer. While sensing his resentment later, Naomi apologized for what had happened with his parents, asking if they could start over. When the two actually sat down to study, however, it became clear that he was smarter than he'd let on. During a drive in his car, Liam explained that he'd largely been dodging school because he'd become bored with it. Later that night, Naomi learned that Liam was involved in street racing. He then offered to call her a cab, but she declined, and rode along with him during a race. Afterwards, Liam fought off a fellow racer who'd made unwelcome advances toward Naomi. The two then drove off, and ended the night by kissing before going their separate ways.
When Silver went missing later that evening, Naomi helped Ethan and Annie search for clues inside West Beverly. While she and Annie searched through Silver's locker (which had the same combination as Naomi's), friendly feelings emerged once again between the two girls. After learning that Ethan and Annie had broken up, and that Silver had been safely found, Naomi chose to bury her ill feelings toward Annie and start their friendship over again.
Naomi participated in a Habitat for Humanity project upon learning that Liam would be involved. She then asked Ethan to question Liam about his interest in her. This drew the guys into an initial state of hostility, but eventually led them to bond unexpectedly. Throughout the project, Naomi and Liam flirted and made out.
[edit] Changes
In the days to follow, Naomi became confused when Liam seemed rather distant, despite their physical relationship. When Charles was faced with a lawsuit, he forced Naomi to leave the hotel for the sake of appearances. Not wanting to live with Charles and Gail, Naomi accepted Annie's offer to move in with her and her family.
Later, Naomi and Liam had a double date with Annie and Liam's cousin. During this meeting, Liam asked Annie out in private, prompting her to quietly decline the invitation. When Naomi confronted him regarding this, Liam stated that he wasn't interested in steady relationships. However, she chose to maintain an interest in him as she walked away. She later moved out of the Wilson home when her sister Jen made an unexpected return to Beverly Hills.
Naomi gained access to her inheritance after Jen pressured Charles. The sisters then decided to buy a home together. Due to Jen's secret misfortunes, however, Naomi, unexpectedly, wound up paying for several of the expenses on her own. She eventually confronted Jen regarding this, and became sympathetic upon learning of her sister's difficulties.
[edit] Night of the prom
Naomi attended the West Beverly Prom with Liam. At the event, Naomi was voted one of West Beverly's five most beautiful girls. When Silver declined the title of Prom Queen, which she'd won under suspicious circumstances, Naomi crowned herself. Later, she became upset upon learning that Liam had mainly invited her because his stepfather wanted him to become more outgoing. However, she soon discovered that his feelings for her were deeper than she'd suspected. The two then had a private dance on the street before briefly separating.
Jen became resentful when Naomi claimed control of the house and threw an after-prom party. Liam, who'd asked Naomi to keep their personal discussions private, was unaware that she'd already revealed things about him to Jen. Upon discovering this, he followed Jen to bed, where the two acted on their mutual spite for Naomi. Upon finding Liam half-naked, Naomi left the room after declaring their relationship over. Liam then became remorseful when Jen identified herself as Naomi's sister. Believing Annie to be the other girl, Naomi chastised her out in the open. This prompted Annie to leave the party while reporting the underage drinking to the police.
Later, Naomi was comforted by Jen. The party came to an end, however, when police officers arrived on the scene.
[edit] Season 2
[edit] New beginning
During summer school, Naomi reconnects with Silver and Adrianna and vows to make Annie's life suffer. She goes out with an older man but breaks up with him when she finds out that he has a family. She finds a naked picture of Annie taken by Mark, a senior boy who slept with Annie, and contemplates spreading the picture around school. Though she initially hesitates, and begins to doubt that Annie slept with Liam, she eventually goes through with the plan after receiving encouragement from Jen. She later finds out that Jen is married and she wants to go back to her husband.
