90210pedia:What 90210pedia is not

From 90210pedia

Welcome to 90210pedia. The following is a document of official policy regarding conduct that should be avoided during our mission to become the most comprehensive and credible guide to the Beverly Hills, 90210 continuity.

Contents

90210pedia is not an outlet for personal opinion

90210pedia seeks to document the facts, and only the facts. As such, tempting statements along the following lines should be avoided:

  • "He was her true love."
  • "The show was never the same again."
  • "This marked a low point."

90210pedia is not an outlet for unaired spoilers

Please note that spoilers from episodes that have not aired in the United States (where episodes typically have their premiere dates) are not allowed in 90210pedia.

90210pedia is not an outlet for weasel words

Wikia editors who are familiar with the policies of Wikipedia.org are likely also familiar with a policy against weasel words—edits which are not in-line with neutrality.

In online databases, weasel words usually attempt to present one side of the story in regards to fan reaction or widespread opinions. These types of edits typically reflect the side that the editor stands on.

For example, the following sentence would not be appropriate in an article:

  • "Many fans believed that Brenda and Dylan belonged together."

While the statement is true, as many fans did believe that Brenda and Dylan belonged together, it is inappropriate for inclusion because the opposite is true as well: Many fans did not believe that Brenda and Dylan belonged together.

The same would apply for the following types of statements:

  • "Some people felt that this season was the poorest."
  • "He was widely considered the best actor on the show."
  • "Highly popular."
  • "Voters of the Website believe that this was when the series jumped the shark."

Even when claims such as these can be sourced, they are not appropriate for inclusion, because they remain one-sided.

In short, avoid using terms such as the following:

  • "Acclaimed as..."
  • "Considered..."
  • "Criticized as..."
  • "Fan favorite..."
  • "Fans were..."
  • "In general..."
  • "Many people..."
  • "Most people..."
  • "Reaction was..."
  • "Some people..."
  • "Widely considered..."

Weasel words are not limited to the above list, but one-sided statements along these lines are generally the types that editors should refrain from.

90210pedia is not an outlet for couple pages or videos

With the exceptions of the pages on Jim and Cindy Walsh and John and Felice Martin, 90210pedia does not publish articles solely dedicated to any couple.

Don't misunderstand the nature of this policy; we think that the Beverly Hills, 90210 continuity has presented several wonderfully-written and very well-acted pairings. However, while we like to assume good faith with regard to all contributors, the issue of neutrality is paramount, and couples are a particularly sensitive matter in that respect. Creating an article for a pairing that one is fond of could also create temptation to write from a non-neutral point of view, as there exists a possibility that the editor's actions could be motivated by favoritism. Likewise, creating an article about a couple that one dislikes could similarly create the temptation to violate the neutrality policy, as there exists a possibility that an editor could be motivated by negativity.

However, it is perfectly acceptable to create sections within a character's article and dedicate them to relationships, under the following guidelines:

  • The sections must be concise, factual, and neutral—free from personal opinion or weasel words.
  • The sections must not create redundancy within the article (the relationship must not already be detailed elsewhere in the article, such as in an overview section).

Note also that videos dedicated to pairings or triangles of any sort are not to be embeded in 90210pedia.

90210pedia is not an outlet for "Quotes" or "Trivia" sections

To avoid potential bias, trivia and quotes should no longer be listed in sections of their own. Information should be integrated into the body of the article.

90210pedia is not an outlet for copied text

Please do not copy text from other Websites and post it here.
